The state of Kansas is perhaps one of the most interesting states in the US when it comes to showcasing the country's political and historical splendor. To begin with, the Eisenhower Presidential Library and Museum situated in Abilene Kansas has one of the most fabulous collections of manuscripts and over 300,000 thousand photographs, a thousand hours of motion picture film and audio tapes which transport the visitor to the early times of war. The museum is a little overpriced but the surroundings of the museum are worth watching and can even be a great value for the effort taken to come to the place.A place for meditation has also been provided by the museum authorities in the tomb where Maimi and Ilke as Mr. and Mrs. President Eisenhower were lovingly called lay rested in peace.
In the same city of Abilene in Kansas yet another free admission sightseeing venue is that of the Greyhound Hall of fame. It is a breeding ground for the Greyhound species of dogs which is dedicated to the breeding, racing and the history of the sport. The hall of fame also has a movie theatre, meeting room, hall of fame display and a museum. This place is exclusively designed for those passionate about dog breeding particularly that of Greyhounds.

While still at Abilene in Kansas yet another place to see is the Heritage Center of Dickinson County. The county is nostalgic with the history of Independent telephony a time after the expiry of the Bell telephone patent in the US.
The Seelyne Mansion and gardens in Abilene has two magnificent mansions that are open for tours. The older mansion is a show house for an interior design after renovation. The Georgian style Seeyle Mansion has retained its old charm. The 25 bedroom edifice was built by Dr. A.B.Seelye.His daughters occupied the mansions until they were 90 years leaving behind the belongings of their mother until it was purchased in1981 and shared along with them until they died.
In case you are an art buff interested in tiles and ceramics, handmade paper, collage and water colors then the Bow Studio and Gallery in Abilene , Kansas is the place to be. Run by a couple called Bob and Inga Bow who have a penchant for pottery and clay . The gallery is open 7 days a week though a prior confirmation would be helpful before dropping in at the place.
When at Abilene, a famous hangout to grab a delicious meal on the wayside is that Kirby House Restaurant and Brookville Hotel. It's the best place to grab a good home made meal for a reasonable sum. It is prudent to make prior reservations but in case you miss out on that one grabbing their chicken meal and setting out on a picnic serves like an equally exciting option.
